Wars of the Roses Weekend at Historic Hoghton Tower

Hoghton Tower will resound to the crash of cannon fire and the clash of armour as Sir John Savile’s Household stages a weekend recreation of the Wars of the Roses on Saturday, 7^th and Sunday, 8^th August.

Visitors of all ages will be able to enjoy everything from dramatic combat displays and archery demonstrations to tours of the encampments and costumed mummers’ plays as part of an action-packed weekend.

Formed in 1995, Sir John Savile’s Household portrays the family, servants and retinue of the Savile family from the middle of the 15^th century until the beginning of the reign of Henry Tudor.

It is a member of The Wars of The Roses Federation and stages historic re-enactment displays for a number of clients including English Heritage and The National Trust.

In addition to the outdoor entertainments, visitors can also book family tours of Hoghton Tower as well as afternoon teas.

Steeped in history and commanding breathtaking views across Lancashire, Hoghton Tower is a spectacular 16th-century Elizabethan fortified manor-house.

The hilltop location, which made Hoghton strategically crucial for centuries, now guarantees brilliant views to the Lakes, the Irish Sea and Wales, from the heart of the famous county which gives it so much of its identity.

As its name suggests, the Grade I Listed building is the ancestral home of the de Hoghtons, who still own it, offering a link not just to the earliest builders of the Tower, but to William the Conqueror and Lady Godiva too.

Visitors of all ages will be enchanted by Hoghton’s extraordinarily rich heritage which spans more than a thousand years of tumultuous British history.
