Fleetwood Festival of Transport is once again welcoming back SpareParts, the UKs only free festival of art, performance and spectacle dedicated to transport, travel and motion to Tram Sunday this weekend.

SpareParts brings a unique programme of professional artists and performers for people to experience alongside the stunning displays of vintage and modern classic vehicles and to celebrate what happens when arts and transport collide.

A highlight will be the SpareParts Arts Parade starting from Ash St. at 3pm. See our international artists, along with over 150 people from the local community; come together in a celebration of a great day. Join in with the cavalcade of curiosities, contraptions and musical vehicles designed by artists and local people as it makes its way down Lord St to the North Euston Hotel

Jodie Gibson, SpareParts Festival Artistic Director, said: “SpareParts really is a unique festival where transport and arts collide! It’s great to be returning to Fleetwood, where SpareParts began in 2014.

“We really enjoy coming home to Fleetwood and working with the Transport Festival, SpareParts brings another dimension to an already successful event. Audiences can expect an array of high quality performances, all with a transport theme. This year audience members will be peddling their own musical, creating a radio show and even cloud gazing!

”Alongside bringing international artists to the programme we create opportunities for local people to participate or perform.

“This year over 150 local people have been involved in making something for or performing in the SpareParts Arts Parade.”

For more information about the festival visit www.sparepartsfestival.co.uk or search for us on Facebook.

SpareParts has been made possible because of support from Arts Council England’s Strategic Touring Fund - a National Lottery funded program, LeftCoast, Fleetwood Town Council and Wyre Borough Council.

There are lots to get involved with on the day, watch our artists and performers and get involved in workshops from Henna and Under Water Rangoli workshops to becoming a post-apocalyptic warrior with a blinged up Mad Max pram for the parade!

There is even a live radio show – RADIO LOCAL, presented by LeftCoast especially for SpareParts is a 12 hour radio spectacular broadcasting live, straight from the centre of Tram Sunday - for one day only.

Based in Victoria Street opposite the Library, Radio Local is hosted by deadpan duo Hunt & Darton. It’s built with, by and for local people, telling your stories, sharing your news, playing your jingles. There are loads of different ways to get involved on the day – it wouldn’t be local without you! You can contribute news, pick a song, even create a jingle in the dedicated Jingle Shed! And if the hustle and bustle of Tram Sunday gets too much head on over to the Listening Shed where you can sit back and listen to the sweet sounds of Radio Local.

Radio Local will be broadcast LIVE on Fylde Coast Radio – www.fyldecoastradio.org.

As usual we hope you will be surprised as you make your way through town on the day, by some of the many walkabout artists who will be popping up throughout the footprint. You never know where they will pop up!
