Gawthorpe Hall is hosting an evening of William Shakespeare themed entertainment this month.

A Midsummer Night's Dream is being performed on Saturday 27 July at 6.30pm.

The performance is produced by Off The Ground Productions Ltd, based in Merseyside. It tells the classic tale of one of Shakespeare's best-loved works that has always had a wide audience appeal.

The play portrays the events surrounding the marriage of Theseus, the Duke of Athens, to Hippolyta, the former queen of the Amazons.

It follows the story of four young lovers, cast adrift in a magical forest, whose romantic escapades are hampered by the influence of fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set.

County Councillor Peter Buckley, cabinet member for community and cultural services, said: "Even the Bard himself couldn't have imagined a more incredible location for this performance, set against the wonderful historic backdrop of Gawthorpe Hall.

"This performance is a classic tale of fairies, mistaken identity and lovers' quarrels. It will be a real treat for Shakespeare lovers and will be great entertainment and fun for everyone."

Tickets for the performance cost £15 for adults, £12 for concessions, £5 for under 21's and children go free.

Numbers are limited for this popular event, so booking is recommended. Tickets are available at www.offtheground.co.uk

Tickets for the performance can also be purchased on the night and admission is from 5pm.

As this is an outdoor production, bringing along your own camping chair or cushion is recommended. Picnics are also welcome.
Gawthorpe Hall is run by Lancashire County Council's museum service, on behalf of the National Trust.
