A stunning once in a lifetime line-up of world-renowned Northern Soul and Motown artists are set to perform at the UK’s biggest International Soul Festival from 12-14th June 2020.

Over the three days the Festival will see an array of exclusive American Northern and Modern Soul legends take to the stage in the stunning surroundings of the Winter Gardens Blackpool.

Performing their most popular and most in-demand sixties and seventies songs will be one of New York’s famous soul sisters Maxine Brown, making her first-ever visit to the North-West of England. From Philadelphia there’s Barbara Mason a lady with a huge following in both the 60s and 70s “rare groove” scenes, G C Cameron a fine vocalist who was a member of both the Motown Spinners and the Temptations and, making his first appearance ever in the U K, an artist we recently tracked down, Jimmie Delphs, one of the most-admired vocalists from Detroit.

Richard Searling is the man behind the Blackpool International Soul Festival having organised Northern Soul events for more than 30 years.

As a well-known face on the scene Richard has organised countless events and presents weekly shows for the BBC here in the North but he desired to create an even bigger challenge for himself, bringing the varying styles of the music he loves together under one magnificent roof. Richard was delighted to be recognised in the most recent Queen’s honours list for his services to soul music in the region.

“We have set the bar high with our first four festivals and we were rewarded with a great attendance but more importantly a very knowledgeable and passionate audience from all around the globe. Not one particular style of soul music dominated too much, there was a wide appreciation of all the facets of classic and contemporary soul presented by over 50 DJs each skilled in their own area. Our guests were so impressed with the venue and the way the event was organised right through from the DJ turntables to the bar staff “

“In 2020 we are honoured to be bringing together four of the best-known names from the past fifty years, and we also hope to open an extra venue to further broaden the appeal of the festival and to continue to attract a younger audience”

“Ever since the halcyon days of the Highland Room sessions in the early seventies, Blackpool and Northern Soul have always gone hand- in- hand and it’s great to see the town continuing to embrace it in such a big way, and to be recognised as the heart and soul of it all once again. I particularly love the fact that this event is bringing people back together again, many who are now meeting up with friends they have not seen for many years”.

The concerts on the iconic Empress Ballroom stage will all be supported by Musical Director Snake Davis and band The Suspicions. With many of the songs set to be performed having never been seen live since they were originally recorded in the studio this is sure to be a real treat for Soul enthusiasts.

The Festival also features seven rooms throughout the Winter Gardens complex filled with soul music and over 50 DJs from across the UK and Europe. Organisers are expecting thousands of fans to descend on the venue to enjoy the music, hear the Q&A session, visit exhibitions and shop in the specially created ‘Northern Department Store’.

Winter Gardens Managing Director Michael Williams added: “We are delighted to be promoting the 3-day Festival in June 2020 in association with Richard.

“The Winter Gardens has proved just how perfect it is for hosting such a prestigious event and the audience can once again look forward to a great weekend of entertainment thanks to a superb line-up of artistes.”
