Pyrotechnic teams from all over the world will go head-to-head in the annual fireworks championships in Blackpool this September.

Top class teams from France, Romania and Canada will compete for the coveted title, with displays taking place over four Friday nights starting on the 7th of September.
A brand-new winner will be crowned this year, after Fireworks for Africa from South Africa put on an incredible display to scoop the prize last year after seeing off competition from Poland and France.
The annual fireworks championship is free, and is among the most popular event in Blackpool’s exciting calendar, attracting tens of thousands of visitors to the Promenade each night.
Cllr Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council, said: “The World Fireworks Championship Blackpool are a huge family favourite.
“They are massively popular and people come from all over the country to watch some of the world’s best give their all in the competition.
“Tens of thousands of people came to watch last year’s displays each night and we’re expecting this year to be just as popular.
“It makes for a perfect start to the weekend for those who go along while still being a hotly contested and coveted competition.
“As well as the fireworks displays, the Lightpool projection shows on to The Blackpool Tower will take place every night, and I’d encourage people to stick around after the shows and watch them from the Tower Festival Headland.”
The displays feature jaw-dropping pyrotechnics – synched to music – from some of the most talented and technically gifted pyrotechnic engineers in the world.
This year’s events take place every Friday from the 7th of September with Pandora Pyrotechnie from France kicking off on 7th of September, before the Romanian team, Pyro-Technic, take to the stage on 14th September and Firemaster from Canada compete on 21st September.
The winner will be announced during the exciting finale event on Friday 28th September which features a showcase from the UK’s very own Titanium Fireworks.

VisitBlackpool are working once again with the amazing Titanium Fireworks to deliver this world-class, pyrotechnical event.

Simon Page, Director of Titanium Fireworks said: “Titanium Fireworks are absolutely delighted to be organising the World Fireworks Championship Blackpool again this year. Facilitating overseas companies to deliver their displays in this wonderful resort and working from the majestic North Pier is a privilege. We also love closing the season with our own show on the last Friday.”

The winners will be chosen by a panel of local judges including Cllr Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council; Peter Sedgwick, owner of Blackpool’s three piers; and Cheryl Tchobanian, proprietor of The Beach House Bar & Bistro, who again are sponsoring and hosting the judging area this year.

As with previous years, The Beach House Bar & Bistro will be providing Fireworks packages giving people a fantastic view and hospitality to watch the World Fireworks Championship each night.  Further information is available on these by calling 01253 749899.

In addition to the fantastic fireworks competition, anyone attending the event will be invited to stay on and enjoy the Blackpool Illuminations atmosphere at Lightpool, where there will be new projections for this year projected onto the front of the Blackpool Tower buildings.  Watch for free from the Comedy Carpet several times every night, with extra performances at weekends and over the October half-term.

All displays and start times are subject to suitable weather conditions.  Please allow for plenty of time to arrive at the event.  There are plenty of restaurants and eating establishments available on the promenade and in the town centre to enjoy before and after each display.

The fireworks will, as in previous years, will be fired from North Pier with build up from 7:30pm and shows starting at 8:30pm.
