One of Lancaster’s best loved pubs, The Borough, is celebrating it’s 12th birthday in style with a brand-new feature staircase showcasing some of the regions best loved books. The grand staircase which welcomes guests immediately on entry has been brought to life by friend of the Borough and local commercial artist Helen Ashton of SCD with Love.

The Borough has been serving the Lancaster area for 12 years and will hold its official birthday party on Sunday the 6th of May. The pub is well known for its quirky interior décor which regularly showcases some of the finest aspects of the region.

“We’ve always been keen to promote the local agenda,” said owner Hannah Horner, “When we first opened our interior design was provided by Mackie’s of Lancaster. We stock a wealth of local ales and use local food suppliers. You’ll see pictures in the venue of historic landmarks, so we wanted to use our birthday to extend our relationship with the region.”

Local artist and friend of the Borough, Helen Ashton, who was commissioned to provide the artwork was thrilled to be involved. “This has been such a wonderful project to be part of. Each step has been hand drawn to celebrate local writers and the surrounding area, giving the stairwell the appearance of a grand bookcase. When Hannah approached me with the idea I was delighted to get on board.”

Art and literature lovers will find authors including Beatrix Potter, Wainwright, Wordsworth and many more. Anyone who wants to discover the 12 Steps can visit The Borough on Dalton Square in Lancaster.

The Borough’s 12th Birthday party is open to the public on the evening of Sunday the 6th May and entry is free. Table bookings can be made in advance by calling 01524 64170 or via the website www.theboroughlancaster.co.uk
