Tony Heaton: Serial Dissenter

Open weekdays 11am-5pm

Lancaster Arts is proud to present Serial Dissenter by Tony Heaton OBE as a keystone in our year-long programme focussed on Dissent. Tony is a multi award-winning sculptor, whose career began here at Lancaster University. This will be a unique exhibition, making connections between sculpture, activism, dissent and protest, in the context of the Disability Arts Movement.

Internationally known for both his sculpture and his activism, Tony's exhibition will reveal key influences and trace the ways in which dissent has been present throughout his sculptural practice. Lancaster University offers a unique context, and the exhibition will feature early rebellious student works, many not seen by the public in decades but offering intriguing insights.

Serial Dissenter will open up questions on what makes sculpture a particularly powerful artform in relation to dissent and explore the role of humour and irony in this, as well as situating Tony in relation to his contemporaries.

"profound and joyously witty statements about the nature of our oppression.'
