Story Talk: Behind High Walls, Inside Lancaster's Workhouse

This talk is part of the 2026 story tours and talks programme by Lancaster City Museums.  Visit the Museums website to see the full list of events and book online.

Behind High Walls: Inside Lancaster Workhouse, with Naomi Parsons.  From its earliest beginnings as a parish poorhouse, to an isolated and imposing building on Lancaster Moor; you will explore the stories and the stigma of those in need of the workhouse's 'indoor relief', in a new lecture with rarely seen photographs and oral history accounts.

Talk lasts about one hour, followed by 30 minutes for refreshments and relaxed questions and answers.
