Richard Dadd, the Fairy Feller & the Mischievous Sprite

A Talk by Dr Amanda Draper – Curator of Art & Exhibitions at Victoria Gallery & Museum.
Of all the eccentric Victorian fairy painters, Richard Dadd is the most notorious, with a life blighted by murder, insanity and incarceration. To mark The Atkinson's display of Dadd's painting Puck we explore the life and work of this troubled artist, and the story behind the mischievous sprite who causes havoc in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Puck is on loan from the Harris Museum, Art Gallery & Library in Preston.

Dr Amanda Draper is a specialist in Victorian visual culture and led on the acquisition of Puck for the Harris in 2011 during her role there as Keeper of Fine Art. She is currently Curator of Art & Exhibitions for the Victoria Gallery & Museum in Liverpool.
