Musicians from the Leeds Waits will perform music that would have been heard at Gawthorpe Hall in the early seventeenth century, linked with the Account of Life: Gawthorpe Hall in the 1600s exhibition.
They will play and talk about their historic musical instruments in between. Instruments include the recorder, crumhorn, shawm, rauschpfeiffe, rackett, curtal, Cornish and Flemish bagpipes, harp, cittern and hurdy-gurdy.
Waits were groups of town or civic musicians, the Leeds Waits existed from 1530 to 1835, and revived in 1983. According to the Shuttleworth Accounts books the original Leeds Waits performed at Gawthorpe Hall in 1618.
