The Atkinson is the custodian of an incredible collection of objects that have come together over the last 150 years. From fine art to egyptology to taxidermy to social history, they are all an important legacy for the people of Sefton.
The Atkinson only showcases a small percentage of the collections at any given time. The rest remains in our stores, but not forgotten. What happens behind the scenes? How do they look after the collection and what are the threats to it? Museums and galleries use a list of ten agents of deterioration to assess the risks to their collections.
This exhibition explores these major risks and explains how they affect The Atkinson's collection and how they care for objects so they will be around to be enjoyed in another 150 years.
