Lancaster
Lancaster's history can be traced back several thousand years. Each era has left some striking enhancement to our cosmopolitan city such as the imposing mediaeval Lancaster Castle, the classic Georgian architecture, the grand Victorian Cathedral or the wonderful folly of the Edwardian Ashton Memorial.
Thanks to Lancaster's heritage, there are many places of historic interest including: the award-winning, quayside Maritime Museum; the Music Room; the Judge's Lodgings home of the famous witch hunter, Thomas Covell and the City Museum which houses the King's Own Regimental Collection.

Overlooking the city is the huge Williamson Park, home to the Ashton Memorial, a tropical Butterfly House and several outdoor theatre-in-the-park productions. Other highlights include the Victorian neo-gothic St. Peter's Cathedral and the ancient Priory Church of St. Mary the Virgin.

Lancaster is a fantastic place for cycling and is proud of its extensive cycling network. The city is one of just six places in the country to be designated a 'cycling demonstration' town, encouraging more of us to get out on our bikes and enjoy all the benefits cycling brings.
Lancaster offers a rewarding Shopping Experience with two well-established shopping centres, all the big high street names and lots of individual retailers in a network of pedestrianised streets. Hidden away down charming narrow lanes are even more unique shops and eating-places housed in historic buildings.

There is a huge selection of independent Cafes and Restaurants, many serving specialist foods and some with alfresco seating.

Devotees of Market Shopping will be spoilt for choice as Lancaster boasts a modern Market Hall, twice weekly open-air markets, a popular monthly Farmers' Market and annual continental market too!
