Lancaster Arts welcomes back artists Sue Palmer and Sheila Ghelani as they turn over the interconnections between climate and geology, fuel and feelings, the strata and layers of atmospheres through performance and action.
A performance along a table
A show and talk
A long table Underneath, an archaeology, of sorts
Objects are assembled, time and space fold
The sea rises, the sea falls
Vapour.
Everything we make is from the earth and will go back to it.
This unconventional performance piece gives audiences the opportunity to arrive, look around and read, before Sue and Sheila perform along a table. Following the performance there will a conversation between the audience, artists and two invited guests from other fields, ranging from scientists and local historians,to artists and activists.
Sue and Sheila have previously collaborated on Common Salt, which in Lancaster, was presented at the Maritime Museum in 2019 and was a show and tell about empire, nature and memory. This new piece builds on their practice and performance work.
"Sheila Ghelani and Sue Palmer know how to create an atmosphere. They are adept at the choosing and setting up of a space, the informal but artful welcome, the beautifully crafted gift. "
