Petr Limonov: Introspective Dialogues: From Renaissance to Romanticism

Lancaster audiences will remember Petr Limonov’s exquisite concerts at the Priory in 2019 and 2021.

This programme is a journey through works by Orlando Gibbons, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, Franz Liszt, and Frédéric Chopin, and offers a fascinating meditation on solitude through different composers and epochs; the first half played in the same key (A Minor) and the second half, in every possible key. Quite an original and exciting concept.

Winner of the Nikolai Rubinstein Piano Competition, Petr’s star has continued to rise as a soloist and a chamber musician worldwide, since being named Newcomer of the Year by the BBC in 2019.  In 2017, his arrangement of Auld Lang Syne (recorded with Nicola Benedetti) was performed at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall.  He is a prolific recording artist.

Recent recital performances include the Nottingham Concert Hall’s Sunday Piano Series, LSO St Luke’s with cellist Laura van der Heijden, a performance for BBC Radio 4 with violinist Jennifer Pike, and the Lerici Music Festival (Italy).  Petr also conducted the Playing for Peace orchestra for a performance of Peter and the Wolf at Trafalgar Square (narrated by Sir Michael Palin), in protest against the invasion of Ukraine.

Orlando Gibbons - Lord Salisbury Pavan
W. A. Mozart - Rondo in A minor, K. 511
F. Schubert - Sonata in A minor, D. 537
F. Liszt - Nuages gris, S. 199
Chopin - 24 Preludes, Op. 28
