What sort of crimes were common in the 19th century? What do we know about the people who committed them? How were they tried and punished? What changes were there in the way society was policed? This talk by Dr Mike Winstanley explores these issues with particular reference to Lancaster and District. Mike Winstanley lectured at Lancaster University between till 2010. He still researches and publishes on NW history.
