Island Folk is Local Foreigner's new project seeking to explore and understand the conditions and peoples that have shaped our culture, question how we tell our story and invites the public to reflect on our part in this history.
The public is invited on an immersive journey that begins 400 thousand years ago with the Homo Heidelbergensis, passes through the Beaker, Romans, Celts, Normans, colonialism, the suffragettes, punk music, rave culture and Brexit amongst others, to finally get to the present day. Along the way there are flying objects, toys, folk song, sword fighting, sailing, hot tea and beautiful landscapes where the public is asked some questions.
The project neither tries to glorify or demonise our history, but instead look at the complexities of an ever evolving place, that has been shaped by many peoples and cultures that have invaded and migrated to and from the isles.
