Become a Junior Wetland Ranger this summer. Learn what it takes to care for beautiful wetlands and help with our daily mission to save wetland nature.
Enjoy an adventure-packed timetable of ranger activities throughout the holidays. Designed to teach valuable skills while having fun outdoors, these interactive challenges will reconnect visitors young and old with nature through wild play and exploration. There's a host of exciting reasons to keep coming back for all summer long.

Fun flamingo health check. Every year there is a health check on the flamingos to make sure they are healthy.
Bird ringing. Ringing birds is really important to learn about how long they live and when and where they move to. In this session you will find out how to measure, weigh and ring a bird.
Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS). Visit the discovery hide and count the number of birds you can see. The main ones to look for are in your Ranger Record Book.
Pond surveying between 13:30 and 15:00. How many species can you identify in the daily pond dipping sessions. Will you come face to face with newts?
Get crafty with the arts and crafts sessions. Make a weather station, design a magnifying glass, or grow your own wildflower seed in the craft room between 13:00 and 16:00.
Complete at least three of these activities, you can attend a special ceremony at 16:00 in the exhibition hall to collect your ranger badge.

Follow A59 towards Preston. Through Burscough Village turn left immediately after the railway bridge onto Red Cat Lane. Follow for 1 mile, Martin Mere is on left.
Nearest railway station is Burscough Bridge station. Martin Mere is 1.5 miles from station. Signposted walk, approximately 30 mins, or can get taxi from Burscough Village. Cyclists are always welcome at Martin Mere.
The centre is signposted from Junction 8, M61, Junction 3 on M58 and Junction 27 on M6.
