JD Meatyard at Kanteena

Glasgow-born singer-songwriter John Donaldson, known as JD Meatyard, emerged from the anarchic post‑punk fringes of Levellers 5 and Calvin Party, winning the admiration of the late John Peel with a string of BBC Peel sessions and Festive 50 hits.

JD Meatyard's specific brand of anti‑folk gifts listeners with 'love songs, loss songs and protest songs'.  Following a series of critically acclaimed albums, JD prepares to release his eighth studio album this autumn.  A regular on BBC 6 Music's Gideon Coe show, his work has also inspired fierce praise from critics:

'JD Meatyard offers proof that thrilling, visceral, directly political music is still available for those wishing to scratch beneath the surface', Andrew Neil, Louder Than War.

A captivating live performer, Vice Vera channels a primal energy from the stage, enthralling her audience from the first to the last.  Looping powerful vocals and off-kilter guitars, she creates soundscapes that are confrontational, joyous and vulnerable in turn.  Calling on influences from post-punk, alt-folk and spoken word, Vice Vera is a creative force to be reckoned with.  For fans of Siouxie Sioux, PJ Harvey and Florence Welch.
'Vice Vera creates a captivating world to get lost in and takes her minimalistic musical approach to the max.  Using the loop pedals with a sculptor's skill she constructs a series of startling songs', Wayne Carey for Louder than War.

Solo artist The Weak And The Strong (NL) brings his unique performance to the UK.  He experiments with acoustic, electronic and vocal sounds to create a visceral and haunting experience.  Expect anything between plain songs, spoken word and soundscapes.  'Sent a shiver down my spine, intimately honest', Miss Anthropy.  'A powerful and intense performer!;. Mike Smith (ICG Records).
