A tour of the textile galleries at Gawthorpe Hall focusing on innovations in colour, print and dyeing.
On the first floor of Gawthorpe Hall are displays of beautiful textiles, from embroidery to lace and costume, showing the range and depth of this fabulous collection started by Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth. Join the curator of the Gawthorpe Textiles Collection, Rachel Midgley, for a guided tour of these textile displays. Using the items on display as examples she will talk about the many ways colour has been applied to them, and the impact of innovative developments such as roller printing and aniline dyes, much of which was developed and manufactured in Lancashire.
Ticket includes entry to the Hall, after the textile tour you are welcome to explore the rest of the Hall's historic rooms. This event is part of British Textile Biennial see British Textile Biennial for more details. Please note the textile displays are on the first floor of Gawthorpe Hall, due to the historic nature of the building there is no lift. Please contact the Hall for further information.
