FLOW: Marking the Mill Race

Many don’t know it, but beneath our feet, below the city of Lancaster, the Mill Race still flows.  Once the lifeblood of local industry, but long covered over, today it lies hidden, unpredictable, continuing to make its presence felt.

Flow is a creative event for everyone to see, experience and be part of.  Together we will expose the route of the Mill Race above ground with our bodies and voices, coming together to think about what has made our city and what will shape its future.

Flow is an artwork. It cannot change the past and is unlikely, in isolation, to affect the future.  It is, however, an opportunity to stand together and consider undercurrents both physically under our feet, and more metaphorically in the wider world, which make us uncomfortable but which we, in general society, are prepared to ignore through lack of agency and in exchange for a more comfortable life and personal prosperity.
