Stonyhurst Enterprises

Stonyhurst College is an independent co-educational Catholic boarding and day school, occupying a magnificent Grade I listed building in Lancashire. Founded in 1593, it is the oldest Jesuit School in the world and famous for its connections to former pupil Sir Arthur Conan Doyle; author of Sherlock Holmes, and JRR Tolkien, author of Lord of the Rings.

Set in the beautiful Ribble Valley, Stonyhurst is home to 700 pupils during term time, but during the school holidays the College plays host to a multitude of residential lettings and events, organised and delivered by Stonyhurst Enterprises. Their repertoire of events range from residential lettings including religious retreats, international language schools and sports & music camps, to events such as festivals, fairs, outdoor theatre productions, dinners and weddings.

At Stonyhurst Enterprises they have over 25 years’ experience hosting external events, and pride themselves on delivering a high standard of service from initial enquiry to completion. Their dedicated Events Co-ordinators ensure every event runs smoothly and that the magnificence of the Grade I listed building is matched only by the level of service we provide.

Their history, character and unique setting make Stonyhurst one of the most impressive venues in the North of England – as well as a wonderful location for films and advertising.

Stonyhurst is regarded as the ‘Jewel in the Crown’ of Lancashire’s beautiful Ribble Valley”.

Stonyhurst offers a unique setting with a range of accommodation facilities available for hire during the Christmas, Easter and Summer holiday periods. They can cater for groups from 40 to 400 in the main College and from 30 to 80 at St Mary’s Hall Preparatory School, situated on the College campus.

Across campus the accommodation is of high quality, ranging from dormitories for younger groups to single or twin bedded rooms with shared bathroom facilities. The ratio of bathrooms to bedrooms is low. We also have 40 single ensuite rooms available at an increased rate of hire.

In addition to full board lodging, they are able to offer laundry service, overnight security, cross-campus WiFi, access to all sports facilities, use of classrooms, school common rooms for recreational purposes and drama theatres, IT facilities and on site parking.

Their wide-ranging facilities makes Stonyhurst ideal for residential camps and trips for children and adults alike.

“We had an awesome time! We were so impressed with your staff at the school and the willingness and effort they put in to make our stay brilliant, was truly special.”

Within the beautiful Stonyhurst estate is a multitude of private sports facilities including a 25m, six-lane, indoor swimming pool, a nine-hole golf course, all-weather pitch, indoor sports hall, shooting range and dance studio.

Their facilities also include a brand new state-of-the-art tennis dome featuring two full-size indoor tennis courts, as well as a fully equipped fitness centre with thirty-seven fitness stations, including free weights, resistance machines and cardio equipment.

Use of all the College sports facilities is included in the residential rate of hire and can be booked in advance by your Events Co-ordinator. They can also provide a temporary gym pass to staff or helpers running a letting, over the age of 16.

“We so enjoyed our time at Stonyhurst and were grateful for the use of all the extra facilities such as the swimming pool, which the kids enjoyed immensely!”

Stonyhurst offers a modern refectory where there is always a fantastic selection of meals to choose from at breakfast, lunch and supper times. They also cater for any special dietary requirements, and packed meals can be provided for excursions or day trips.

Pre-booked tours of the College can be arranged during letting periods, enabling groups to visit the various chapels, historic rooms and collection of artefacts within the building. The College’s magnificent collection of artefacts include Arthur Conan Doyle’s school desk and an Egyptian mummy.

Stonyhurst College features a number of function rooms, ranging from traditional and listed to modern and bespoke.

The wide variety of function rooms available to hire, cater for groups of all sizes and can be equipped with a full range of conferencing equipment, including laptop, projector and screen, flipcharts, TV and video.

They also offer a variety of catering options to fit within the client’s budget, from a two or three course served meal to a hot or cold buffet in the function room of your choice.

The nature and size of the College lends itself to large events, often open to members of the public. Stonyhurst Enterprises has a wealth of experience hosting events of this size, managing the planning, preparation and delivery.

Over the last 20 years, Stonyhurst has played host to the NAFAS Flower Show, the Great British Food Festival, Galloway Antiques & Fine Art Fair and the Stonyhurst Spring & Autumn Fairs.

New to 2017 is the Maverick Races Trail Running Event which will take place across the College grounds. In the autumn they will host the first Ribble Valley Wedding Show, showcasing the best of Lancashire’s wedding industry.

At particular times of the year, they can support public events at the College by offering a café facility.

Each facility hire enquiry is dealt with on an individual basis to suit specific requirements, providing a bespoke, personal service to every client.

“You both did a great job – you handled everything in a relaxed yet very efficient way so that all went to plan but no one felt ‘managed’!”

Retreats play a vital role in the contemplation and reflection which is such an important element of the Jesuit faith. Stonyhurst hosts a variety of Retreats throughout the year on a residential and non-residential basis. The College has five chapels in total, each unique and beautiful in equal measure, and suited to groups of differing sizes.

They can also provide breakout rooms for spiritual reflection, discussion groups or workshops, alongside a variety of catering options.

Set in the beautiful Ribble Valley and with the stunning backdrop of the Stonyhurst Grade I listed building, Stonyhurst provides the perfect setting for your dream wedding.

Available exclusively to former pupils and staff, a wedding at Stonyhurst College is truly unique.

Whilst the 15th century College building offers countless opportunities for memorable moments, the gardens boast outstanding views of Pendle Hill and the surrounding scenery, providing a wealth of impressive photo opportunities.

Their dedicated Events Team, will be on hand throughout the process to provide you with as much choice and assistance as possible, ensuring your special day will be everything you dreamed of.
