The Continental: Ska Face
Ska Face is a 10-piece ska band from the wrong side of the tram tracks in England's original ghost town - Blackpool on Sea. Formed in April 2010 the band are enjoying a meteoric rise through the live ranks, packing venues to capacity.

Ska Face performs all the classics - The Specials, Bad Manners, The Selecter, Madness. A full 4-piece brass section sets them apart from other acts, as does their enigmatic and energetic singer Tony Montana.

Ska Face revives the original verve and energy of the 80's Ska explosion. With passion, enthusiasm, accuracy and big grins on their faces.

They hold the attendance record at renowned venue Uncle Toms Cabin in Blackpool with an astonishing 750 people turning out to one of their shows there, another landmark in their first year.

Their first anniversary in April 2011 was spent performing to a sell out crowd at Layton Institute with Roddy Radiation of The Specials guesting on lead guitar. Roddy's assessment was 'really nice lads and good players' - high praise indeed from one of the Godfathers of Ska.

The band also is on the radar of names such as Richard Jobson (The Skids) and Peter Hook (Joy Division / New Order). Suggs from Madness also slipped into the crowd for an after show party performance whilst recently performing at The Winter Gardens. Rico Rodriguez (Specials / Jools Holland Orchestra) joined them at their first show in Preston at a packed 53 Degrees. Rico was also very complimentary about the performances and grinned for most of the set.

Inspired by the ska and Two Tone hits of the eighties, Ska Face are currently recording their debut album and have recently secured a world-wide distribution deal with Valley Digital.

So grab a shot of rum from the bar and make your way to the dance floor for the most intensely watchable band you will see all year. And remember - enjoy yourself - it's later than you think...

Support act TBA soon.

The show will take place on Friday 30th March 8pm.

Tickets £5 advance (£6 on the door) from The Continental Bar on 01772 499 425 or Preston Visitor Information at the Guild Hall on 01772 253 731.

Directions

Road Directions

From the town centre, head straight down Fishergate Hill past the railway station and County Hall, then turn left onto South Meadow Lane. Follow South Meadow Lane until you reach the river, and the pub will be on the right. There's a generous car park behind the beer garden, which can be reached by turning right straight after the pub onto Riverside.

If you're coming from out of town, it's easy to get lost in Preston's one way system - we'd suggest finding your way onto Ringway, which curves round the north of the town centre forming part of the A6 and the A59. After that, head west and follow the signs to the railway station up Corporation Street - once you've reached the railway station, follow the directions above.

If you're coming from Penwortham or the west of Preston, drive along Broadgate from Fishergate Hill, onto Riverside, and then turn left onto Connaught Road. Drive straight along Connaught Road until you reach the end, then turn right onto South Meadow Lane. The pub is a couple of hundred yards along on the right.

Public Transport Directions

You can catch the Preston Bus or Stagecoach service number 3 down Fishergate, and get off at the junction of Fishergate Hill and Broadgate (just before the bridge over the river Ribble). From here, it's just a short walk down Broadgate and on to Riverside until you get the the pub, on the corner of Riverside and South Meadow Lane.

Both services also call at the bus stop on the opposite side of Fishergate Hill on the return journey to Preston, along with services to and from Leyland, Southport and other outlying areas.
