Artists have been creating forgeries for centuries, but a question needs to be asked: If a forgery has been in a gallery for 120 years, at what point does it cease to be an imposter and become a bona fide part of the overall collection?
The exhibition is about showing how a convincing copy can be created for a minimal cost with very basic materials, in some cases reclaimed, of a work worth millions previously lost to posterity. In a time when we are encouraged to encourage, there’s no real place for a mindset that considers forgery to be either inferior or immoral.
