Greendale Teahouse and Rooms

Nestled just outside the picturesque village of Downham, surrounded by the unspoilt landscapes of the Forest of Bowland, Greendale Teahouse and Rooms offers a peaceful countryside retreat with a touch of quiet luxury.  With sweeping views across the Ribble Valley and towards the Yorkshire Dales, this beautiful Victorian building is the perfect escape for those seeking rest, good food, and a warm welcome.

Greendale Teahouse and Rooms is independently run by Michael and Zoe, two seasoned hospitality professionals with experience in Michelin-starred kitchens and invaluably supported by Zoe’s mum, Caroline and stepdad, Neil.  Together, the four of them have created a haven where comfort, detail, and genuine Northern charm come together in harmony.

Directions

Road Directions

From Clitheroe, take the A59 towards Skipton.  After approximately three miles, take the turning onto the B6243 towards Chatburn.  Follow the signs to Downham, turning right at Hudson’s ice cream shop.  Greendale is situated about half a mile out of the village, on the left, after you’ve crossed the road bridge over the A59.  If you’re visiting from Skipton, head along the A59 towards Clitheroe.  Turn right off the A59 to pass through the village of Chatburn, continue for about a mile, and turn left at Hudson’s ice cream shop.  Travel for another half mile or so, crossing the road bridge over the A59 and you’ll see Greendale Teahouse on your left. There is ample on-site parking for guests, so you can leave your vehicle safely while you enjoy your stay.

Public Transport Directions

Greendale Teahouse & Rooms is located on Downham Road, just outside the village of Chatburn (postcode BB7 4DL), in the heart of the Ribble Valley.  The nearest railway station is Clitheroe, which is served by regular Northern Rail from Blackburn and Manchester.  From Clitheroe station, it’s a 10-minute taxi ride to Greendale.  Local taxi firms can be found via a simple Google search.  It is recommend that you book ahead, especially at weekends. The bus interchange in Clitheroe is conveniently located next to the railway station, making it easy to transfer between bus and train services.  Bus numbers 66, 66S, and 67 pass Greendale Teahouse, with stops in either Chatburn or Downham.  Although it’s not their official practice, some friendly bus drivers may stop right in front of the Teahouse to let passengers off, but they typically don’t pick up here. Alternatively, the 280 bus (Preston – Skipton) stops at Chatburn Post Office, which is just under a mile from Greendale, around a 15 – 20 minute walk or a very short taxi hop.  For walking enthusiasts, Downham village is a 10 minute stroll along a scenic footpath from the doorstep.
