Storytelling in Stitch - Embroidery Artist and Author - Jordan Cunliffe
This meditative session will explore ways in which we can take our memories and experiences, then use data visualisation techniques to translate them into beautiful embroideries.
Jordan will bring samples of her own work to spark ideas around different concepts, styles and techniques, then using simple and accessible methods, she will guide you through the best way to share your story in stitch to make the most beautiful and meaningful outcome. In addition, we have selected some special pieces of Wessex embroidery from the Gawthorpe Textile Collection for you to study for inspiration.
Jordan will share her tips for tracking and recording data, then demonstrate how to translate this into a keepsake piece of embroidery. Throughout the class we will look at different ways in which we may like to 'encode' private data to keep the meaning a secret.
All materials will be provided, but please feel free to bring along any meaningful or sentimental fabrics you particularly want to work with.
A knowledge of basic embroidery stitches would be advantageous for this class but not essential, as techniques can be taught on the day.
