British Textile Biennial
Sarah-Joy Ford presents a site specific installation at Accrington Library of her quilt: Oranges are Not the Only Fruit, responding to Jeanette Winterson’s novel. The digitally embroidered, white work quilt stitches moments inspired by the narrative, whilst embellishing her own connecting threads of experience.
The quilt is a soft monument to the significance of literature to LGBTQ+ people, to find solace, inspiration, and solidarity. Even if we are isolated, in books we can find ourselves, stitching connections across generations, temporalities, and differences.
Sarah-Joy Ford is an Artist working with textiles to explore the complexities and pleasures of queer communities, histories, and archives. Her practice sits at intersection of digital and traditional: using strategies of quilting, digital embroidery, digital print, applique, and hand embellishment.
