A 10-piece collective whose music celebrates the coming together of cultures.
TC & The Groove Family are a collective whose music celebrates the coming together of cultures, and the power of music in providing a platform for unity and community.
Driven by drummer Tim Cook, their live shows are powerful and dynamic, exploring grooves and genres from the UK and around the world, including afrobeat, breakbeat, jungle, jazz and highlife.
Debut album 'First Home' built upon the success of early singles, finding support from Jamz Supernova and Craig Charles on BBC Radio 6 and Emily Pilbeam on BBC Introducing West Yorkshire. One of the leading singles 'Duende' was also playlisted on Jazz FM. Recorded and produced by Tom Excell (Nubiyan Twist, ONIPA), and released in June 2022 through Worm Discs (Snazzback, corto.alto), the record takes on themes of empowerment and questioning institutions of power and oppression, with a core message that we are stronger together than divided. Even with this heavy subject material, the joy and celebration of the friendship at the core of the Groove Family shines through, with a carnival atmosphere created from the outset.
Summer 2022 saw them make a name for themselves on the UK festival circuit, with appearances at Glastonbury, We Out Here, Greenman and Kendal Calling topped with a crowning headline set on the Chai Wallah stage at Shambala. The band have also played alongside afro-fusion legends K.O.G & The Zongo Brigade (who were amazing at last year's festival!) and London jazzers Yussef Dayes, Pyjaen and Cykada.
The group are working on new music and collaborations for 2023.
