The race, which was previously named Ron Hill 10K and attracted hundreds, has now been renamed to Ron Hill Accrington 10K and is part of The Running Bee Foundation’s impressive event portfolio, honouring the Foundation’s late ambassador, Dr Ron Hill MBE.
Runners will be taken on a journey of Ron’s life as they complete this 10k course, passing places that shaped the former Olympian and exploring his birthplace.
Starting in front of the Town Hall in the heart of Accrington, runners will head out onto Blackburn Road towards Dale Street. Here, they will pass May Hill Close and Ron Hill Way, areas named after the heroic Ron Hill and his dear wife May.
Soon after, participants will pass Platts Lodge before entering the picturesque Woodnook Vale Nature Reserve. This is where the route gradually climbs along the nature path, which is a disused railway line.
After approximately 6.5km, runners arrive back on the road in Baxenden. Making for a perfect race finish, runners begin to head quickly downhill towards the end and pass the finish line outside of the iconic Accrington Town Hall.
The route itself is perfect for every level of runner; from those chasing elite times, to raising funds for charity or wanting to enjoy a social run.
