Ever wanted to make your own cushions? Maybe you have some extra fabric from some curtains and want some cushions to match? Perhaps you want to add some statement cushions onto a cuddle chair, a sofa or a bed. After some successful, sold out workshops on How to use your sewing machine Lynne joins Holden Clough again for another creative, hands-on day of learning.
Who is this for? Beginners and those who are ready for the next step in their sewing journey. For those who already have a sewing machine, who know the very basics, but want to further learn how to use it and start creating pieces with it.
What will you create? From fabric to finish, you'll go from choosing a design to then sewing, stuffing and styling your very own cushion/s.
During the full-day workshop, you'll learn how to make both an envelope cushion as well as a zipped, piped cushion, leaving with two beautifully finished pieces.
What will you learn? Fabric cutting: master measuring, marking, and cutting fabric with confidence to achieve perfectly fitted cushions. Pattern matching: learn techniques to match patterns for a seamless, professional look. Sewing techniques: develop skills in creating clean piping, adding fringes, trimmings, embellishments, and sewing zips. Design and styling: get tips on styling your cushions to suit your space and personal taste.
What's included? Your very own one or two bespoke scatter cushions to take home. You'll make an envelope cushion and a zipped and piped cushion. The size of which will be 40cm x 40cm. Zips will be provided. If you have a particular colour you'd prefer, then you're welcome to bring your own. Piping will be provided. Guidance from an experienced sewing tutor and professional upholsterer.
A supportive, relaxed environment to learn and practice new skills on your sewing machine. What to bring: your sewing machine, it is always recommended to use your own machine so you can learn how to use your specific model, two metres of your preferred medium weight fabric, good options are cotton, linen, tweed, chintz. You're welcome to bring 2 x 1 meter lengths if you'd like different cushions. Please email if you have any questions.
A full day workshop. There'll be a lunch break where you are welcome to bring a packed lunch, or you can choose from The Reading Room's workshop menu in the morning, so it'll be ready when you break. They also have tea and coffee available to buy from the café.
