Join historian and castle tour guide Dr Christopher Tinmouth for a free public talk in the grand setting of Lancaster Castle's Shire Hall.
This lecture will take you on a journey through the life and times of John of Gaunt: his military career in France and Spain, his lordship over the Duchy of Lancaster and the County Palatine of Lancaster, his influence upon the government of Richard II (1377-1399), and his patronage of Geoffrey Chaucer and John Wycliffe, two of the most significant figures in late mediaeval English culture and religion. Here, in Lancaster Castle, this throne of Dukes, this seat of Mars, the history of the most famous Lancastrian of mediaeval England will be revealed.
