Heritage Open Days in Wyre 2019

Heritage Open Days takes place from 19th to 22nd September 2019

In September every year, Wyre takes part in the national Heritage Open Days, this is your opportunity to visit historic attractions for free that are either not normally open to the public or usually charge an entry fee.

Wyre has a rich array of historic gems to discover for all the family.

This September Wyre Council is opening the door to the past and is inviting you to join them.

There’s a full programme planned where you can discover more about the heritage, community and history of this wonderful borough.

From Friday 13 to Sunday 22 September, Wyre Council will host a series of events which include tours of historic locations such as Marine Hall, Rossall Point Tower, the Civic Centre, Garstang Quaker House and Marsh Mill.

Discover the heart of Wyre’s countryside with organised walks around the Wyre Estuary and Bleasdale.

Find out all about Fleetwood’s past with a rare chance to see inside the Lower Lighthouse. Take a walk around Memorial Park and its surrounding area with Dick Gillingham or take an opportunity to find out about the heritage of Fleetwood’s cemetery and the people buried there who helped shape, build and support the town.

Fancy a trip to the coast? Rossall Point are hosting a number of events where you can join Lancashire Wildlife Trust looking for seals, porpoises and dolphins. Watch the last of our summer birds and the migration of wintering birds.

Councillor Lynne Bowen, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Community Engagement at Wyre Council comments, “It’s the 25th anniversary of Heritage Open Days, and there’s so much for people to see and do. We are lucky to have lots of historical venues, theatres, parks and towns here in Wyre and I’d encourage everyone to discover something new about the wonderful borough they live in.”
