Heritage Open Days: Blackpool Town Hall

Conducted tours of the Town Hall, including the Council Chamber, Mayor's Parlour and Committee Rooms.

Visitors will be given a brief outline of the history of the building and will be shown the Committee room where council meetings were originally held while the rest of the building work was completed.

The importance of the coming of the railways to the growth of Blackpool as a seaside resort will be emphasised as part of this year's national theme. The highlight of the tour will be the impressive Council Chamber with its many points of interest, such as the Wragg Window, history wall paintings and the four windows representing the activities for which Blackpool was known. How the Council Chamber functions today will be briefly explained. Visitors will be shown the Civic silver collection and the Mace. More generally, the reasons why the Town Hall is a Grade II listed building will be explained.
