Food and Drink > The Fisherman's Retreat
The Fisherman’s Retreat – Meat & Whisky Specialists. One of North-West England’s top Dining Pubs, the award-winning Fisherman's Retreat is nestled away in Twine Valley, three miles east of Ramsbottom, at the edge of the Pennine Hills. The valley was initially purchased in 1981 and used for rearing beef cattle until nine years later it was diversified to a trout fishery.
Today the pub is surrounded by 80 acres of its own land and it's here where much of the beef, pork, venison and lamb that appear on the menu are reared. Now a destination restaurant in its own right, The Fisherman's Retreat menu features a wide selection of traditional and modern British dishes, with an occasional international influence - all freshly prepared using traceable produce. Whether it is the reputation for its dry-aged steaks that many claim to be the best in the country, the trout caught daily from the on-site fishery, or the chips that are made to order from real potatoes, this truly is a unique dining experience.
Complementing the world-famous cask ales on offer are some 500 bottles of single malt whiskies, all available by the bottle or as a wee dram. The organised whisky tasting evenings (October to March) are a huge success with demand outstripping ticket sales.
