Cuerden Valley Park Trust

Owned and managed by Cuerden Valley Park Trust, a small independent local charity. The Trust invites you to come to a Park, in the centre of Lancashire, with links to Victorian England when it was part of the Cuerden Hall Estate. Recently restored, with Heritage Lottery grants, the American Garden and Pineatum, the Walled Orchard, the lake and views over the valley will take you back in time.

With 650 acres of woodland, parklands, argricultural lands, meadows, a lake, the River Lostock and 10 miles of paths Cuerden Valley Park is a refuge of countryside at the heart of Lancashire. Visited by over 260,000 people each year it is open to the public 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

Enjoy the walks on secluded paths through the woods, picnics with your family by the river, fishing on the lake and Cock Cabin Pond, relaxing in the award winning restored Victorian Walled Orchard and seeing the wide variety of birds, insects and other creatures who inhabit the Park. Sightings of roe deer, woodpeckers, kingfishers, butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies are reported regulary. Otters have returned to the Park recently and we have the great crested newt in our ponds.

Historians would enjoy the ruins of the Lower Kem Mill Bleach and Dye works excavated and interpreted at the southern end of the Park. We have three recently published trail leaflets for walks on the Park with the themes of Historic Gardens, Secrets in the Landscape and Natural World.

Our woodlands have been certified under FCS standards and logs, woodchip and charcoal are available to purchase from the Park. An application has gone in for Green Flag status in 2009 and we are awaiting the outcome.

The friends of Cuerden Valley Park organise a series of walks and talks in the Park you can call the Park Office or visit our website for more details. In the early summer the Cuerden Valley Fair attracts around 3,000 visitors to the Park to enjoy a great day out.
