Top Gear to Switch on 2008 Blackpool Illuminations

Blackpool has announced the names of the mystery celebrities who will be switching on the 2008 Illuminations on Friday 29 August in conjunction with BBC Radio 2.

The Top Gear team who started their brand new series on BBC 2 on Sunday 22 June are making an extended pit stop to flick the famous switch during a free concert and special live broadcast .

Executive producer for Top Gear Andy Wilman said :

"The boys are really looking forward to it as one of the things they all enjoy is turning on lights! "

Cllr Mrs Maxine Callow, Cabinet Member for Tourism and Regeneration said:

"We are absolutely delighted that the Top Gear team has accepted our invitation to switch on this year's lights.I know that this will be a very popular choice with the wide range of audience that the switch-on attracts."

"Radio 2 always provide a superb standard of top recording artistes for the free concert leading up to and including the switch-on itself and we hope that thousands of fans of Top Gear and Blackpool, will join us in the celebrations and that they stay to enjoy all the free events Blackpool will be hosting throughout the weekend and indeed during the Illuminations season."
