Food and Drink 2008

Lancashire will be focusing on food and drink during 2008, in partnership with the Liverpool Culture Company and Liverpool's European Capital of Culture 2008 celebrations.

Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board is co-ordinating `Taste Lancashire`, a wide range of events, activities and promotions, including initiatives designed to champion up and coming young chefs and raise the quality of eating out places in the area.

Lancashire is already well renowned for its shrimps from Morecambe Bay, local beers, Lancashire cheeses, traditional black pudding made in Haslingden, Lancashire Hot Pot, and local meats including Goosnargh Chicken and lamb and beef from Bowland.

Nigel Howarth of Northcote Manor's famous Lancashire HotpotMany of the events planned for 2008 will be in partnership with local produce champions Made in Lancashire and Northwest Fine Foods; the Northwest Food Alliance, representing regional businesses in the sector; and Liverpool's many fine eating venues. Good representation from the city is also expected at farmer's markets in Lancashire and at many of the existing, and well-supported, food festivals such as:

- Lancashire Food and Drink Festival (April)
- North West Food Lovers Festival held at Stonyhurst College in the Ribble Valley (August)
- Pennine Lancashire Festival of Food and Drink held in the Darwen area (September)

Lancashire's reputation for its range of local foods and drinks is not surprising considering the county has two areas of outstanding natural beauty - the Forest of Bowland and Arnside and Silverdale, not to mention the West Pennine Moors and 137 miles of coastline including the world famous resort of Blackpool.

A campaign website for 2008 will be available in spring 2007 and will be accessible from this website.
