Doodle Day in Lancashire - March 2008

Just Doodle it!

Over three weekends in March, Cedar Farm Galleries in Mawdesley, will be throwing open its doors to provide pencils, marker pens, thread and paintbrushes to budding doodlers in celebration of National Doodle Day.

There will be lots going on including: the opportunity to doodle on postcards at the café @ Cedar Farm and the Coffee Roastery between March 7th and 9th; Ruth in the studio with a graffiti wall that needs covering with your drawings on March 15th and 16th and Pots of Fun painting doodles onto ceramic tiles on March 22nd and 23rd.

Plus, between 1pm and 4pm on Saturday 22nd March, Katy and Joanne from Art @ Cedar Farm will be offering people the chance to paint their part on a collaborative silk hanging or make their mark by stitching a doodle onto a patch of fabric which will turn into patchwork. Once finished, both the silk hanging and patchwork will be on display until March 31st.

And anyone who wants to submit their piece of the hanging or patchwork to the national doodle competion is encouraged to bring along a camera to photograph their work.

Joanne Eddon, silk painter at Cedar Farm, is urging as many local people as possible to get involved: "We have so many art-based businesses here at Cedar Farm and it's great for us all to get together for such a fun and worthwhile project."

Whether they're a budding artist or it's your first time drawing in years, anyone can have a go.

The aim of these weekends is to raise as much money as possible for National Doodle Day's charities Epilepsy Action and the Neurofibromatosis Association. All they are asking for is a £1 donation per doodle, or as much as you can give to help support the thousands of people suffering with Epilepsy and Neurofibromatosis. In return for your donation, people will have the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win £500 for the best doodle in the country. Lloyds Pharmacy and stationary company, BIC, have donated prizes.

Nick Park, Gemma Atkinson and Sir Bobby Charlton have already submitted their doodles.
