Lights, camera, action!

8th July 2009

British Commercial Vehicle Museum, LeylandTelevision cameras and historic vehicles are ready to roll in Leyland during a spectacular celebration of the town’s industrial heritage.

Enthusiasts from all over the world will descend on South Ribble this weekend as the Leyland Transport Festival comes home; and all the fun and games will be captured by three BBC camera crews. Snap-happy visitors are also invited to capture their own images of the weekend as part of a “Life in Leyland” photo competition.

The BBC has followed organisers of the event for the last four months to produce a fly-on-the-wall documentary about what it’s like to put on such a major event. Members of the British Commercial Vehicle Museum Trust, the Leyland Board, South Ribble Borough Council and local traders will feature in the programme, as of course will many of the people who will flock to the celebrations at the weekend.

Entrants in the photo competition can win vouchers for Wilkinson Cameras and have their pictures displayed in the town centre. You can use any camera, including your phone. The categories are:

• Life in Leyland
• Family fun in Leyland
• Heritage and history in Leyland
• Sports and social in Leyland
• Locally-produced in Leyland
• Dawn to dusk in Leyland

Closing date for entries is 31 July. Pick up a form at the Civic Centre, in West Paddock, download one from www.visitleyland.co.uk, call 01772 625567 or email

The Leyland Transport Festival will take place from 10am to 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Find out more about the bumper schedule of activities and things to see on the Visit Leyland website.

Visitors will be encouraged to buy an event programme on the day, which will allow holders to park their cars, travel on the vintage shuttle bus and get free entry to the British Commercial Vehicle Museum. Money raised from the programme and during the weekend will support the British Commercial Vehicle Museum, St Catherine’s Hospice and Sue Ryder Care.
