Blackpool Zoo is celebrating the arrival of a new baby giraffe!
The male calf was born on Sunday 18th October at 11.30am to mother Sonia, who came to the award-winning attraction from Fota Wildlife Park, in Cork.
Jude Rothwell, PR and Marketing Coordinator, said: “We are absolutely delighted by the news. Mother and baby are doing really well and Sonia is proving herself to be a wonderful mother.”
Although only a few days old, the new arrival is almost 6ft tall and could grow up to 19ft. Mother and baby are now on view to the public and visitors can see the new arrival via the viewing area in Giraffe Heights.
Jude added: “Our new arrival is adorable and we are sure that he will be the star attraction over the October half-term!”
Giraffes returned to Blackpool Zoo in July 2008 after a break of more than 17 years. The zoo now has seven giraffes including Timber, the attraction’s young male who was born in December 2008.
