Some of the world’s most famous golf tournaments take place at Lancashire’s celebrated Links Courses, which stretch along the renowned Lancashire Golf Coast. Luckily for any golf enthusiasts out there, many of the best courses are also open to the public, so you can test your ability with the challenges that links courses are famous for – tricky winds, sand dunes, small, deep bunkers, uneven fairways and thick rough. Around the delightful and historic coastal resorts of Lytham and St Annes, just a few miles from the bright lights of Blackpool, you’ll find four world-class golf courses. Royal Lytham St Annes was founded back in 1886 and has hosted The Open 10 times since 1926. St Annes Old Links is one of the courses to host the official qualifying tournament to The Open for Royal Lytham St Annes. It’s particularly famous for its 170-yard, par-three ninth hole with its narrow green, lined either side by bunkers. 1926 Open winner Bobby Jones reportedly took the hole’s measurements to replicate it back in the States! Another course along Lancashire’s Golf Coast is Lytham Green Drive, also an Open qualifying course. Its small, well bunkered greens are known to be extremely tough. Fairhaven, the fourth course and a respected qualifying course for The Open, hosts several other major professional tournaments including PGA events and Lancashire County Championships.
