Mere Sands Wood is a wildlife rich haven in the heart of agricultural landscape. The site covers 42 hectares (105 acres), of lakes, woodland and grasslands, managed for wildlife and people.
The nature reserve has a fascinating history. This has led to the development of a variety of quality habitats that host nationally important wildlife and to the discovery of internationally significant geology.
There are three Trails/Routes around the reserve (Blue Trail, Meadow Walk and White Trail). Each have a different level of accessibility. The different Trails take you through a section of the site that best represents one of the three elements of Mere, Sands and Wood.
Mere Sands Wood is owned and managed by The Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside.
