Birdwatching

Love birdwatching? Why not visit one of Lancashire's three magnificent birdwatching attractions.

RSPB Discovery Centre

RSPB Discovery Centre, an interesting visitor attraction with interactive displays and volunteers who will explain all about the wildlife on the Ribble Estuary, one of the best areas in the world for different species of birds. A popular venue with twitchers. Special walks, talks, displays and activities throughout the season with the resident RSPB warden. An ideal attraction for school parties.

Leighton Moss RSPB Nature Reserve

The largest remaining reedbed in north-west England, with shallow meres and fringing sedge and woodland, attracts a wonderful range of wildlife to Leighton Moss. Among its special birds are breeding bitterns, bearded tits and marsh harriers, with water rails and pochards, and its mammals include roe and red deer.

Wildfowl & Wetland Trust Martin Mere

In winter, internationally important numbers of ducks, geese and swans gather to form spectacular feeding flocks on seasonally flooded wetlands which enjoy SSSI/SPA and Ramsar status. With a diversity of waterbird exhibits, Martin Mere is a first class, year-round, wetland wildlife attraction.
