Stuart Takeover Days at Hoghton Tower – a fabulous festival of Stuart life in authentic stunning surroundings!
As part of the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) supported LEAP Project we are proud announce that our Stuart Takeover Days at Hoghton Tower will take place on Sunday May 14th and Monday May 15th 2017. These are part of our celebrations of the 400th anniversary of the visit of King James 1st of England to Hoghton Tower in 1617.
Thanks to National Lottery players, the event will be open for the public to enjoy on Sunday 14th May. Activities on offer will include: Stuart Masques (pantomime, dancing, dialogue and song) provided by Merrie Noyse; examples of food served at the banquet for King James 1st in 2017 with tastings; Stuart leisure activities from The Book of Sports of 1618 with both indoor and outdoor games; a tour of the rooms significant to King James 1st on his visit. These activities will take place in beautiful historic rooms within the house or in our charming grounds and gardens. There will also be an optional Jacobean menu in our Tearoom and local brewed ales to sample!
On Monday 15th May we will be closed to the public whilst 120 local primary school students enjoy a range of workshops exploring life in Stuart times. They will take part in a number of creative, hands-on activities, relevant across all areas of the curriculum and in a wonderful out-of-school location.
Workshops and activities on the Sunday will run from 10am until 4pm and will be enjoyed by all the family.
