Green Tourism Business Scheme

The Green Tourism Business Scheme award recognises places to stay and visit that are taking action to support the local area and the wider environment. It’s the largest sustainable (green) scheme to operate globally and assesses hundreds of fantastic places to stay and visit in Britain.  Although many actions take place behind the scenes, during your visit you will get opportunities to sample a wide range of local, organic or fair trade products, get access to car-free activities such as walking and cycling, enjoy wildlife with local insider knowledge and be encouraged to join businesses in their efforts to remain sustainable. All these while experiencing high quality, comfort and enjoyment.  Just look out for the green leaf logo…

Get involved....

There are many ways in which you can get involved during your visit to help look after our beautiful area, and ensure it is just as special on your next visit, this will also support the businesses in maintaining their commitment to sustainable tourism:

1. Why not get out of the car – walking, riding and cycling are great ways to explore the area without adding to the traffic and you'll find there are fantastic places to visit right on your doorstep!
   
2. Stay local, eat local, buy local and see local – Lancashire has gained a reputation for fine food and local produce, so why not seek out farmers' markets, village stores, pubs and cafes and make a real difference to the local communities.
   
3. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – support the tourism businesses which you visit in their efforts to reduce waste.  You will find that many will be encouraging and provide all the facilities you need to recycle.
   
4. Switch off…and save energy - in rural Lancashire you can see the stars at night!  Help us reduce energy use and CO2 emissions by switching off lights and standby buttons when you don't need them.  Help us reduce water consumption by using just the water you need.
