From the bright lights of Blackpool to theatrical performances, you will find a great variety of entertainment to suit your group.

For groups looking for some 'night time buzz', Blackpool offers every type of evening entertainment from the famous Illuminations to spectacular shows and theatrical productions.

Mirror BallMany groups are attached to Blackpool by the 'greatest free show on earth', the Blackpool Illuminations, which take place annually from the end of August until November. Using fibre optics, lasers and LED technology, this impressive extravaganza is a far cry from the eight electric arc lamps used for the first illuminations in 1879. Six miles of shimmering light stretch along Blackpool's famous seafront, the 'show' now being Britain's biggest tourist attraction. You can enjoy the lights by walking along the seafront or taking a special 'Illuminations Tour' on board one of the Blackpool Electric Trams. The trams makes a good outing at any time of the day.

Hot IceFamous for its world-class entertainment, Blackpool Pleasure Beach presents spectacular shows. As well as the acclaimed Hot Ice Show featuring world-class performers, Blackpool Pleasure Beach will be staging a new show Forbidden, an untold fairytale featuring stunning dancers.

If you really want to let your hair down, there are more than 30 nightclubs, discos, and fun pubs in the resort catering for every taste. If you are looking for the UK's biggest superclub, the Syndicate is the place for you. For sophisticated clubber, Level One features five stylish bars and a video screen system while the dance arena on Level Two is well known for its 40-foot revolving dance floor shaped as a 12-inch vinyl record.

For the more adventurous group, Blackpool's Funny Girls is a cabaret bar that combines extravagant dance routines, great music and burlesque comedy.

Nearby, Blackpool's North and Central Piers also offer big name entertainment.

Grand TheatreBlackpool also has a wide choice of theatrical venues for groups. Blackpool's Grand Theatre stages one of the longest and most varied theatrical seasons in a UK resort. Guided tours around the theatre can also be arranged.


The Opera House, part of the Winter Gardens complex, is the country's largest theatre with a seating capacity of almost 3000. Some of the world's greatest entertainers have performed here since it opened in 1939. Other attractions within the complex include the Empress Ballroom and the Pavilion Theatre.

Ashton MemorialIn Lancaster, it is also possible to tour both the Grand Theatre and The Dukes Playhouse. Hailed as the third oldest provincial theatre in Britain, the Grand Theatre offers some great entertainment while The Dukes Playhouse enjoys a national reputation, producing professional in-house shows as well as hosting touring productions. Also in Lancaster, Williamson Park is the setting for 'Pinocchio', the Duke's 20th annual outdoor walkabout theatre production for 2007.

In Preston, the Guild Hall presents a range of professional and amateur events from small recitals to full theatrical productions while further east in Darwen, Lancashire's newest state-of-the-art performance space, Darwen Library Theatre is staging a programme of theatre, music and comedy this season.

On the coast, set within beautiful gardens, Lytham's Lowther Pavilion stages a wide variety of events while the Marine Hall, situated on Fleetwood's Esplanade, presents live music, dance, comedy and drama, giving a wide choice of performances to choose from.

Further north in Morecambe, The Dome and The Platform venues also offer an excellent programme of shows and events throughout the year that your group should enjoy.

Burnley MechanicsAs the venue for the Burnley National Blues Festival, Burnley Mechanics is renowned for its jazz, blues, classical music and theatre. It also has a growing comedy strand,attracting some of the best comedians in the country,so you'll be sure of being amused on a visit.

For an alternative evening's entertainment, you could consider a Ghost Tour around either Clitheroe, Whalley, Colne, Blackburn or Accrington to scare your group silly. Your guide, Simon Entwistle, will appear in full Victorian dress and his tours are always accompanied by sound effects. Heritage tours can also be arranged.
