Ribble Valley Jazz & Blues

Ribble Valley Jazz & Blues is an arts-based charity dedicated to developing the benefits of jazz and blues music in Lancashire.

Since our formation in 2007, our mission has been to develop and promote the best in live jazz. This has centred on live music events involving local, regional and leading UK jazz musicians at first-class venues in the heart of Ribble Valley, in particular at The Grand, and The Atrium Cafe Bar in Clitheroe. An important part of our mission is to help bring on new musical talent, in particular young musicians from schools, colleges and North West Jazz Clubs, and to give opportunities for newcomers to perform in front of an audience.

We run a programme of monthly events bringing in a range of musicians from far and wide. We support a Ribble Valley Jazz Collective Big Band that has grown over the years and now give performances around the area. We welcome any musicians from beginners to well practiced to join in and contribute to the big band sound. Our major event is an annual 5 day Jazz Festival in May Bank Holiday where we have over 35 gigs and involve over 300 musicians, have a Jazz Train, a Blues Stage and a Saturday Street Festival. Lots of local organisations, shops, cafés, pubs, hotels and restaurants join in and make the event a fabulous weekend for visitors.

We have a thriving membership who get discounts on our events. Many contribute to the running of RVJ&B by giving their time and experience to help organise and promote the club. So if you want to become a member and take an active role, you would be very welcome.

Road Directions

Take the A59 from Skipton or Blackburn and follow the signs to Clitheroe. Clitheroe has a one-way system along it’s main shopping streets, Moor Lane and Castle Street. Moor Lane starts at the south of the town at Sainsbury’s. Proceed up Moor Lane to the top of the hill. For the Artium turn left through the gates into the castle grounds and left again up a small road/pathway. There are limited spaces and most are for disabled access. For The Grand bear right onto Castle Street and go through the town, down the hill past the old Library on the left at the crossroads, continue through for 200yds and The Grand is on the right. Parking in the evenings in Clitheroe is free and there's plenty of it, either along the well lit streets or in the main car parks. These are at the Market, at the Station, Railway View Avenue and along Lowergate.

Public Transport Directions

We hold our gigs mainly in Clitheroe town centre venues. There are several places we use, so please check for details but, if you do turn up at the wrong one then the right one will be only a short walk away.Clitheroe has a train station with regular hourly services to Blackburn and to ManchesterThere are regular bus services to other towns in the surrounding area including Accrington, Blackburn, Burnley, Nelson, Oswaldtwistle, Padiham, Preston and Skipton.
