Morecambe town and surrounds

The district’s recorded history stretches back to the Bronze Age and they keep discovering stuff! At Heysham is one of the earliest Christian settlements at St Patricks with the unusual stone-cut graves. Next door is the Grade 1 listed St Peter’s Church dating from as early as the 7th Century. Inside you’ll find the Viking hogback (grave cover) stone dating from the tenth century.

Morecambe’s Heritage Centre, next door to the Winter Gardens has a great collection of items from Morecambe’s 20th Century entertainment heyday with rare posters and exhibits from our variety, comedy and railway heritage.  Fancy visiting an English Heritage town?

Lancaster is one of the recognised historic cities of England.  Sited on the first crossing of the River Lune it was an important Roman settlement. It is the seat of the Duchy of Lancaster – founded by the House of Plantagenets which produced ten crowned kings of England and built Lancaster’s highly impressive castle. You feel you are walking through history as many of the buildings, squares and 'ginnels' in Lancaster have been preserved. It is just 3 miles away from Morecambe.
