Water Babies Narrowboat Hire

Water Babies is the longest established narrow boat hire company on the Lancaster canal, having served the holidaying public for nearly twenty years. They have two narrow boats for self-drive hire and - unique on the Lancaster canal - one which is a chartered skippered hotel boat.

The 'girls' - as they are affectionately called, the 45' Dolly Mixture; 57' Mint Imperial; and 60' Graydees Dream - operate from their own private moorings at Bridge 72 near Forton. From this picturesque location, guests can travel north through the verdant countryside of Lancashire, through the medieval city of Lancaster, onwards to Carnforth and Tewitfields with views out to sea and many attractions to enjoy. Going south, guests can visit the ancient market town of Garstang and the attractions of Bilsborrow, before making their way to the county and country's newest city, Preston - a Mecca for shopaholics.

Self-drive hire boats are not allowed through the locks of the Glasson Arm to the quaint village of Glasson Dock, home of The Lancaster Smoke House, purveyors of fine foods to HRH The Queen and Duke of Lancashire. This pleasure is reserved for guests aboard Graydees Dream, whose skipper and crew are all RYA qualified and experienced helmsmen/women.

The boats can be hired for short breaks (Monday to Friday; Friday to Tuesday) and full weeks. Minimum hire period for self-drive aboard Mint Imperial and Dolly Mixture is 3 nights. Both boats sleep up to 4 people in 2 double beds.

Graydees Dream can be hired for one day celebration cruises. The bespoke the cruises are tailored to our guests special requests. These are intimate and romantic experiences for up to 4 people. Graydees Dream also sleeps up to 4 in 2 double beds.

They are also happy to welcome aboard those who are looking for a 'different kind' of Bed & Breakfast experience. Up to 4 people can stay aboard any of the boats (subject to availability) for one or more nights, without cruising. For longer bookings (3+ nights) with advance booking, the boats can be moored in the Glasson Basin allowing guests the opportunity to experience a unique 'bed aboard' experience in this delightful setting.
