Eighties chart-toppers The Human League and singing sensation Aled Jones are set to perform at an annual charity concert in Lancashire this summer.
The Symphony at the Tower event in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice, near Preston, takes place over two nights this year for the first time ever.
The first – on Friday July 5 – will welcome synth-pop pioneers The Human League,
whose hits include iconic eighties anthems ‘Don’t You Want Me’, ‘Together in Electric Dreams’ and ‘Human’, along with a string of records spanning the decades, up to the 2011 album Credo.
The following night musical star Aled Jones – who first found fame as the voice of ‘Walking in the Air’ from the hit film The Snowman, went on to release 24 albums, and is now also a familiar face on ITV’s Daybreak breakfast show - will perform. He will be accompanied by the Sophie Evans, star of the BBC’s Over the Rainbow talent TV show, and the Heart of England Philharmonic Orchestra.
The two-night line-up is a huge boost for the annual Symphony event – which last year had to be cancelled due to heavy rainfall.
Lorraine Charlesworth, Director of Income Generation at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “We’re delighted to be announcing the return of the Symphony in 2013 – which promises to be bigger and better than ever before, with household names taking to the stage for two fantastic nights of music.
“We hope the addition of the Friday night event will open up the event to new audiences from across the region, who can enjoy a great night out whilst raising even more money to fund the specialised care and support St Catherine’s Hospice provides.”
