Alexandra Ridout Quintet + Lancashire Youth Jazz Orchestra

Line-up: Alexandra Ridout Quintet: Alexandra Ridout - trumpet, Noah Stoneman - piano, Miles Mindlin - guitar, Freddie Jensen – bass, Luca Caruso – drums. Jam Experiment: Rory Ingham - trombone, Alexander Bone - sax, Toby Comeau - keys, Joe Lee - bass, Jonathan Mansfield - drums.

Ribble Valley Jazz Fest 2017 brings you another feast of young talent!

First they welcome Alexandra Ridout, winner of the BBC Young Musician Jazz Award 2016. She has played trumpet – classical as well as jazz – from the age of 9. Here she leads her quintet of young musicians, including fellow finalist Noah Stoneman, who all met at The Royal Academy of Music Junior Jazz Department. Their passion for the music and outstanding musicianship produce an incredibly mature sound that belies their tender years. They are equally at home playing hard-swinging jazz, poignant ballads and solid funk tunes. Expect some original tunes from the group, as well as favourites from Miles Davis to D'Angelo.

Afterwards, the Lancashire Youth Jazz Orchestra (LYJO) take to the stage, led by their ever-youthful music director Paul Rigby. LYJO has been going for 40 years, and many of its students have gone on to become top professional jazz musicians. Over the years, the Orchestra has performed with many international musicians such as Kenny Baker, Alan Barnes, Mark Nightingale and Georgie Fame. Expect popular big band music from across the whole spectrum, as well male and female vocal numbers from the likes of Duke Ellington and Count Basie all the way through to present day stars such as Michael Buble and Robbie Williams.

At the end of the gig, the two bands will be joined in a couple of numbers by Jam Experiment, our Festival's first ever Band-in-residence, which includes Alexander Bone, the 2015 Young Jazz Musician Award.

Be sure to join us at this celebration of high quality live jazz from premier young jazz musicians
